One of the things I liked most about FriendFeed was how it wasn't Facebook, and I'm sure I'm not the only one who felt that way. This is really a kick in the teeth! I hope that despite the purchase, FriendFeed need to stay an independent service. Becoming just another part of Facebook will make them lose what made FriendFeed so great. Arrrgh! One of the reasons why I prefer Facebook over....say, MySpace (besides the fact that I'm not 15) is the relative "safety" of the walled garden. I'm not being spammed, my account has been pretty trouble-free, and I don't receive "friend" requests from people named "CheriXXX" (as I now do on Twitter.) I'd hate to lose that aspect of Facebook -- the ability to lock the gate, so to speak. I like your analogy of the “walled garden”.
