Great points Aaron: I've been watching Friendfeed for a while and IMO where it seems cool on the surface and even from the developer's standpoint, there's not enough meat on the bones. It's seems to mainly be a confirmation that the party is elsewhere. Some people's streams show how adept they are at spamming every other social network with their content and aggregating to Friendfeed. Users who know how to use Yahoo Pipes seem to have developed a 1 person stream that updates content every 4 seconds...cute but where's the social part?

Twitter, like email, is used by people ranging from the tech savvy to your every day mom. It's another avenue, a target rich environment, that's waiting to be exploited. At least I haven't seen nigerian scams on twitter, yet.

This is pretty interesting considering what happened to Twitter last Thursday. This is huge and I think either Twitter has to now "pair up" with something like Goolgle or its their song wont last.

Their in cahoots! It will be interesting to see how this one turns out. Why did your account get suspended at Friendfeed? I know you were given a 2nd chance to use the service - are you still doing so at all?

Arrrgh! One of the things I liked most about FriendFeed was how it wasn't Facebook, and I'm sure I'm not the only one who felt that way. This is really a kick in the teeth!
I hope that despite the purchase, FriendFeed need to stay an independent service. Becoming just another part of Facebook will make them lose what made FriendFeed so great.

I like your analogy of the "walled garden". One of the reasons why I prefer Facebook over....say, MySpace (besides the fact that I'm not 15) is the relative "safety" of the walled garden. I'm not being spammed, my account has been pretty trouble-free, and I don't receive "friend" requests from people named "CheriXXX" (as I now do on Twitter.)

I'd hate to lose that aspect of Facebook -- the ability to lock the gate, so to speak.
