Firefox Extension: Freakin’ Beacon

Install Firefox Extension Freakin' BeaconFacebook Beacon is a severe privacy violator and Facebook is not the only guilty party. We have covered the fault that is on Facebook’s side as well the fault that is to be shouldered by partner sites who choose to share your purchases and usage with anyone who is reading your Facebook News feed. Often times, this is contrary to the privacy policies of the same companies utilizing the Beacon technology.

We feel pretty strongly that companies who use the Beacon technology should not be patronized by users. Simply by engaging the partner companies, data regarding your activity is sent to Facebook where it is matched up with your profile and fed into your feed. You may think this doesn’t apply to you if you don’t have a Facebook profile, but at this time, the Beacopn technology does not discriminate regarding data sent. Partners send it and let Facebook sort it out - and trust that Facebook will dispose of data properly if necessary.

Firefox 2.0.0.x (obviously). It may work in earlier versions but is untested. Please let me know.

Install the extension now.

    Twitter Pitch!

Twitter pitching is a form of pitch that requires succint "what does this mean for me" kind of pitching. It is the ultimate efficiency of words. You have 140 characters or less to tell me why your pitch matters to me or my readers. Please include a means of contacting you. This is included in your 140 characters. If you send successive pitches, you will likely be ignored, unless it's obvious that the first pitch was a case of "accidental send", etc.

This form of pitching does not mean I'm being a diva. It means that my time is valuable, and you want a piece of it. It's good practice for you, and delivers your pitch in a format I want. Win-win.
